While the standard 14g x 10mm (3/8") belly ring is the most popular size, it's certainly not the perfect fit for everyone.
The ideal bar length can vary depending on your individual anatomy, how your piercing was originally placed, the way it healed, and even how it has changed over time. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, natural ageing, or years of wearing jewellery can all affect the amount of tissue between the entry and exit points of your piercing.
If your jewellery feels too tight, a longer bar may provide a more comfortable fit by allowing extra room for your anatomy.
If your jewellery has too much movement, hangs away from your skin, or catches on clothing, a shorter bar can often provide a neater, more secure and comfortable fit.
It's also important to remember that bar length and gauge are two different measurements. If your 14g jewellery passes through your piercing comfortably but the fit isn't quite right, you probably don't need a thinner bar - you simply need a different bar length.
